Geraldine Frates, 73, of Fairhaven passed away Thursday May, 11 2017 at her home surrounded by her family after fighting a brave and courageous battle with cancer.

Gerri was born in New Bedford to the late Lena Almy and the late William Mello. Gerri was a communicant of St. Mary's Church Fairhaven.
Gerri graduated from Dartmouth High School in 1961, and was very active in the reunion committee. She retired in 2006 after 25 years as a budget analyst as Southcoast Hospitals.

In her retirement, she volunteered at the Fairhaven Senior Center...

Gerri was born in New Bedford to the late Lena Almy and the late William Mello. Gerri was a communicant of St. Mary's Church Fairhaven.

In her retirement, she volunteered at the Fairhaven Senior Center and was very active in the community.

Gerri enjoyed spending time with her 6 grandsons, Jeremy and his wife Lauren, Justin, and Jared Furtado, Paul Jr., Joshua, Timothy Mattos and her pride and joy, her great grandson Brayden Mattos.

Gerri was survived by her beloved husband, John Frates and her 2 devoted daughters, Kicia Furtado and Kelly Thomas and her husband Michael Thomas, two brothers, William Mello and Christian Almy, and one sister Dorothy Martin and many nieces and nephews that were very dear to her heart.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 9:00AM in WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719 followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Mary's Church, Main Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719. Visitation Monday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Burial Private. Contributions in her honor may be made to: American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. Friends and relatives invited.
